Exercise Caution: High Fire Danger on the Island

Yesterday, August 17, the City of Bainbridge Island issued a fire danger alert saying that “The fire danger through this weekend will be extreme.” The City urged caution and reminded the community that a Stage 2 burn ban is in effect.

A Stage 2 burn ban prohibits the following:

  • recreational fires (wood)

  • charcoal fires

  • agricultural fire

  • ceremonial fire

  • burn barrels

  • yard waste burning

  • debris burning

  • weed torches

The only fires allowed are propane or liquid-fueled grills or other cooking appliances, fire tables, fire pits, or self-contained wood pellet grills (ex. Traeger, Big Green Egg).

Beware of using machines that can spark, like lawn mowers, weed-eaters, chainsaws, trimmers, wood grinders, welding equipment, and tractors. Don’t drive a vehicle onto dry grass or brush.

If you see a fire, call 911.
