Wildfire

  • Firewise Program

Many of our citizens live in the heavily forested areas the Fire Department defines as the "Wildland/Urban Interface." Dry summer weather and lack of rainfall bring danger from wildfire to homes nestled in underbrush or on hillsides.

Before wildfire strikes, evaluate the risk of losing your home to it and take appropriate steps to protect your home and family. You can create defensible space around your home to slow or halt the spread of fire.

Learn more abut BIFD’s Firewise program to help residents reduce wildfire risks.

  • Evacuation Zones

Subscribe to Nixle alerts to hear of any evacuation warnings or orders. Text “98110” to 888777 from your mobile phone to subscribe.

Look up your evacuation zone on this map provided by the City of Bainbridge Island. When a warning or order mentions your zone, grab your go bags.

  • Household Fires

The best way to fight wildfire is to prevent it from happening in the first place.

Fires can start in your home and business for a number of reasons, including cooking accidents, smoking, fireworks, faulty or unsafe use of wood stoves or space heaters or heat lamps, improper storage of flammable items, frayed electrical wires, overloaded outlets or extension cords, unattended lit candles, and outdoor wildfire or uncontrolled burns.

To avoid fires, take these steps.
