The Smoke Is Upon Us

According to the National Weather Service, a shifting wind pattern will blow smoke from fires in the Cascades and the southern part of British Columbia into the Puget Sound area starting tomorrow, August 19. Air quality for Kitsap County will drop from healthy into the moderate category.

It’s too early to say for sure, but the air quality could further worsen by Sunday, August 20, dropping into the unhealthy category. An anticipated shift in wind patterns on Monday will likely clear the air.

During periods of poor air quality, try to stay indoors and limit exercise outdoors. Use an air purifier and keep windows closed.

Monitor air quality with the Washington Smoke Blog (https://wasmoke.blogspot.com) or the AirNow app (https://airnow.gov).
