Until Help Arrives: FEMA Class March 19

The public is invited to attend a new training opportunity, a FEMA class called Until Help Arrives. The class is being offered March 19 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the House of Awakened Culture in Suquamish through a partnership among Kitsap911, North Kitsap Fire & Rescue, and Suquamish Community Health.

Participants will learn the five key actions to take in an emergency before help arrives. By the end of the class, participants should also be familiar with the following concepts:

  • What information to share with 9-1-1 operators.

  • What the role of 911 operators is.

  • The decision-making process to implement before taking action during an incident.

  • General safety tips for an incident.

  • Stop the bleed.

  • The physiology of severe blood loss—including irreversible shock.

  • The decision-making process behind choosing to use and using a tourniquet.

  • The recovery position.

  • Psychological First Aid.

  • Airway self-management.

  • Contents of a personal emergency supply kit.
