MRC Woofer Cohort Recertifies

February 23 to 25, a couple dozen members of the Bainbridge Prepares Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) met up at Fire Station 21 to renew their Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification by completing a hybrid course taught through CPR Seattle and certified by NASAR (National Association of Search and Rescue). The 3-day class ended with a mass casualty event simulation in the woods next to the fire station, giving the students a chance to practice their newly recertified skills.

The Bainbridge Prepares MRC is a group of 300+ volunteers with a variety of medical and public health backgrounds that will assist at the Disaster Hubs and the Disaster Medical Center (DMC) with medical aid and logistics during and after a disaster. MRC volunteers also help out in the community at first-aid events, providing care during Chilly Hilly, the 4th of July parade, and the Rotary Auction and Rummage Sale, among many other events.

MRC volunteers may participate in medical trainings to advance and maintain their medical and leadership skills. The WFR class focuses on medical skills in austere/remote environments. The exercises and skills learned in this class will help the team provide prolonged care at the Hubs and DMC.
