Kitsap Transit Offering Free Rides to Cooling Centers

Kitsap Transit, in partnership with the Kitsap County Department of Emergency Management, is offering free bus rides to cooling centers from now through Wednesday, August 16. The service is intended to help residents stay cool during the current excessive heat warning (which began yesterday, August 13 and is expected to last until tomorrow Tuesday, at 11 p.m.).

The cooling center at the Bainbridge Island Senior Center is open today from 1 to 5 p.m. Other cooling centers include the seven Kitsap Regional library locations (Bainbridge Island, Kingston, Manchester, Port Orchard, Poulsbo, Silverdale, and Sylvan Way) and two YMCA locations (Bremerton and Silverdale).

Download the Kitsap Transit Tracker so you can see the real-time arrival time (estimated) for the bus at the nearest stop.

When you depart the cooling center, Kitsap Transit will also provide a free ride during their normal hours of service.
