December: Neighborhood & Community

You’ve prepared your household, and you should celebrate and feel good about the effort you’ve put out to increase the resilience of your family. Now come the next steps, which are to work on increasing the resilience of your neighborhood and community.

Activity

This month, it’s time to think beyond your own household to your neighborhood and wider community.

  1. Find out if your neighborhood is part of Map Your Neighborhood. If it is, skip to #6.

  2. Familiarize yourself with the step-by-step guide to the Map Your Neighborhood Program.

  3. Download this useful packet to get a deeper understanding of the MYN initiative and how to organize your neighborhood meeting.

  4. Gain more insights on hosting a Map Your Neighborhood event through these helpful videos.

  5. Join the MYN team and contribute to building a disaster-ready community.

  6. Reach out to your neighborhood captain and find out what you can do to help.

  7. Find other ways to increase the resilience of your neighborhood: plant a community garden, host monthly emergency training classes, or work together on Prepare in a Year 26.

  8. Turn toward the larger community. Consider volunteering for Bainbridge Prepares.
