Remembering Rick Nakata

Rick Nakata, a cherished volunteer known for his dedicated service to organizations like Bainbridge Prepares and the Bainbridge Island Fire Department, passed away from liver cancer on October 16, 2023.

Our most treasured memories of Rick and his cousin, Glen Nakata, who we lost last year, center around their tireless efforts at our Covid clinics. They willingly took on the often underappreciated roles of standing outdoors, even in inclement weather, guiding Bainbridge Islanders and other visitors in and out of our clinics. What stood out was their unwavering cheerfulness, consistently uplifting the spirits of everyone they encountered. Their absence will be deeply felt.

The Bainbridge Island Japanese American Community has shared a touching tribute to Rick, and for those who wish to pay their respects, Town & Country Market, where Rick held the distinction of being the store's longest-serving employee, has set up a memorial display at the store's entrance.
