BP Supports Trillium Run
The annual Trillium Run, which happened May 11, takes runners from Battle Point Park, up the Forest to Sky Trail, through the Grand Forest, and finally to Hilltop Meadow. The event, hosted by the Bainbridge Island Parks & Trails Foundation, was supported in part by Bainbridge Prepares volunteers.
Thirteen BP volunteers worked the event, representing four different teams: Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), Medical Reserve Corps (MRC), Bainbridge Emergency Auxiliary Radio Service (BEARS), and TechOps. CERT managed traffic/parking safety, MRC staffed two first aid tents, BEARS supported communication between the two first aid tents with ham radio, and TechOps responded to provide drone video footage; however, drones were grounded by the FAA and Secret Service that day because President Biden was in town.
This year’s event included 180 runners—34 for the fun run and 146 for the 5K and 10K runs.
The first aid stations were located at Battle Point Park and at Prue’s House at Hilltop. The MRC treated five runners for minor injuries including scraped knees and ankle sprains.
The money raised by admission fees will support development of new trails around the island: the Lost Valley Trail, which is part of the east-west, cross-island trail route from Winslow to Gazzam Lake; the Dolphin Drive to W. Port Madison Trail; the Sunny Hill to Nutes Pond Trail; and the Waypoint Woods gateway trail.
