WA Legion Names DC Moravec Firefighter of the Year for Covid Response

Moravec and TanskleyOn July 22 in Pasco, the Washington Detachment of the American Legion gave Bainbridge Island Fire Department Deputy Fire Chief Jared Moravec its Firefighter of the Year award. The award recognizes Moravec's work with Bainbridge Prepares and partners on vaccinating the public against COVID.Moravec helped lead the BIFD and its partners—BP, the City of Bainbridge Island, and Bainbridge Island Community Pharmacy—in running 88 vaccination clinics since the outbreak of the pandemic. In 2021 alone, Moravec invested more than 1000 hours of his time in the effort, with many of those hours extending beyond his normal work schedule.One of the outcomes of the vaccination clinics is a 95 percent vaccination rate among people over 12 years on Bainbridge Island.The award was presented at the Washington State American Legion Department Convention in Pasco.Featured image shows DC Moravec and AL Law and Order Committee Chair (and Blaine Police Chief) Donnell Tanksley.
