COVID-19 Vaccination Update

Thanks to a partnership among Bainbridge Prepares, the City of Bainbridge Island, the Bainbridge Island Fire Department, and Bainbridge Island Community Pharmacy, many Bainbridge citizens have been able to be vaccinated on the Island against COVID-19. The number of Islanders who have received the first dose of the Moderna vaccine has now reached 770 after a large-scale effort last week that administered the vaccine to 470 people. Three hundred folks were vaccinated in the last ten days of December.

The partnership ensures that members of BP's Medical Reserve Corps can administer the vaccinations. Without that assistance, local pharmacies would be unable with their own personnel to reach that many people even though the vaccines themselves are available.

Vaccine administration is guided by the Washington State Department of Health's Vaccine Phases plan, which established a timeline and prioritization for the vaccine. High-priority health-care workers, first responders, and long-term care facility residents are the first people eligible for the vaccine in phases A1 and A2, both of which are continuing into January. In the second phase, B1, which has not yet begun in the state, the targets will be all people 70 or older and all people 50 or older who live in multigenerational households.
