Psychological Shock Trauma Training for Emergencies (presented by Sharon Stanley, PhD)

Knowing how to accurately identify, care for, and intervene when someone is in a state of psychological shock are key skills for any first responder in an emergency. In this class led by shock and trauma expert PhD Sharon Stanley, we'll discuss a neuroscience-based model of shock trauma and the related areas of intervention for self regulation and restoration of patient well-being. Vivid perceptions that activate the defensive autonomic nervous system are at the root of all trauma reactions. We'll distinguish harmful defensive neural states from the healthy states needed to communicate safety and connection at times of trauma. We’ll also analyze the skills necessary to shift the patient into a constructive neural emotional state.

The goal of this Psychological Shock Trauma Training for Emergencies from the Bainbridge Prepares Wellness team is to convey strategies for identifying, treating, self regulation, and preventing psychological shock to Bainbridge Prepares volunteers, and the staff of our partners at the fire and police departments.
