Announcing Our Island Resilience Campaign

How YOU can make Bainbridge safer and stronger starting today

We’re excited to announce our next big step, the launch of our Island Resilience Campaign. We have set a goal of raising $80,000 for community-led programs that ensure every resident on Bainbridge Island can access the knowledge, tools, and resources needed to withstand a major disaster like an earthquake or tsunami. At the same time, your support builds sustainable community infrastructure that makes our island more resilient in the face of environmental crises like the climate crisis.

Since Bainbridge Prepares began in 2011, we have done so much together, building a network of preparedness that touches every corner of our island. With this foundation in place, we are now ready to pursue big goals for 2024 and beyond that you can make possible through your support today.

Our goals include:

  • Completing the build-out of our 14 Disaster Hubs so that every resident is within walking distance of a hub fully equipped with emergency radio kits, adequate medical supplies, nonperishable food and water, and other essentials.

  • Continue to hold dozens of free trainings annually, such as CPR and Stop the Bleed, so that hundreds of residents are prepared to respond to serious medical emergencies until professional help can arrive.

  • Fully fund and equip our Child Reunification Center where separated children can be kept safe in a major disaster until they are reunited with their families.

  • Strengthen connections with nonprofit partners like the Bainbridge Island Senior Center and Island Volunteer Caregivers so that vulnerable residents are prepared and resilient during a disaster.

  • Make sure we are prepared for the next pandemic or community health crisis by maintaining the operational readiness of our Medical Reserve Corps.

And that’s just the start of what you will make happen through the Island Resilience Campaign!

Behind all of these programs is our incredible, dedicated cadre of more than 700 volunteers. People like Rajlaxmi ("Raj") Bais, DNP, ARNP, who is a Nurse Practitioner and Clinical Specialist at the University of Washington Medical Center and joined the Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) in the fall of 2019. When the pandemic began in 2020, she found herself giving dozens of hours each month to our vaccination clinics, which helped to deliver more than 40,000 COVID-19 and influenza vaccine doses. Now as team co-lead of the MRC, Raj remains engaged on a daily basis, developing medical protocols and coordinating trainings like Wilderness First Aid, Orthopedic Injuries, and Stop the Bleed so that our 240+ MRC members will be able to respond quickly with in-the-field medical care under the pressing conditions of a natural disaster or public health emergency.

Bainbridge Prepares is driven and led by the community. Community members, neighbors, first responders, volunteers, and many others come together under the BP umbrella to offer care to everyone on Bainbridge Island in the event of a disaster or emergency.

Your dedication, passion, and commitment to community are the lifeblood of Bainbridge Prepares and what make Bainbridge a one-of-a-kind place.
