Did You Feel That Quake?

The Great ShakeOutIf you felt a quake at 10:15 a.m. today, October 15, 2020, don't worry: It was only your neighbors ducking and covering. Although there was no earthquake, thousands of people across the state participated this morning in the annual Great ShakeOut drill, designed to prepare people to react quickly and effectively in the event of an actual tremor.Participants were encouraged to "drop, cover, and hold on for one minute." The drop part is to get you out of the way of flying glass. The cover part is to protect you against falling debris. And the hold on part is intended to keep you in your protected zone during an earthquake strong enough to shake you across the room.Even if you missed the drill, there is more you can do to prepare for the inevitability of a large seismic event in the Pacific Northwest. The first thing is to take the Are You Bainbridge Prepared? household assessment for the purpose of gauging your family's readiness. The second thing is to learn more about earthquakes.
