Bainbridge Island Emergency Medical Responders staffed the First Aid booth at the Bainbridge Island Parks’ Winter Wonderland festival this past Saturday, December 8, at Waterfront Park. There were no major injuries, but the BIEMRs provided a few bandaids and, in conjunction with Community Emergency Response Team members, helped fix a light failure on the festival displays. They also helped rope some 20-foot-tall nutcrackers.The BIEMR team totaled 25.5 person hours at the event, setting up at 2 p.m. for the 4 p.m. start and taking down at 8:30 p.m. at the end of the festival.In addition to free first aid, revelers enjoyed a host of other free events including face painting, horse and buggy rides, wrapping paper decorating, s’mores with the Bainbridge Island Police, cider and cookies, ice sculpture demos, a lighted boat parade, and reindeer. Local businesses offered participants a chance to win gifts.The Winter Wonderland event, sponsored by Bainbridge Landing and Puget Sound Energy, is a partnership among Bainbridge Island Metro Park & Recreation District, City of Bainbridge Island, Bainbridge Island Chamber of Commerce, Bainbridge Island Downtown Association, and Puget Sound Energy. The BIEMRs’ participation was authorized by the City. Participation at events such as this helps ensure that the BIEMRs are ready to go if and when an emergency happens.
