Amateur Radio Tech License – Start to Finish
January 20 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
One event on January 27, 2019 at 9:00 am
Join your friends, neighbors and islanders in obtaining a Technician Amateur Radio License. This two session, intensive class will enable you to pass your FCC Technician License Exam offered at the the conclusion of the second session. About two weeks after the exam you will receive your own call sign from the FCC and be able to operate on the amateur radio bands.
In addition to licenses preparation there will be hands-on time to gain practical exposure to radios. After you receive you license and buy a radio, members of the local club will be available to help you get your radios setup and on the air.
We’ve developed a series of family preparedness classes held twice a month, now being taught by the preparedness experts from Empact Northwest.
Each 90 minutes class covers 72-hour evacuation Go Bags, family reunification plans, and neighborhood mapping, as well as exercises that foster thoughtful conversation about disaster planning and identification of threats unique to our community. Register now for upcoming classes.
Other classes have included verbal de-escalation techniques from our police department via our Psychological First Aid (PFA) team. Should those be of interest to you, please let the PFA team lead know and sign up for the email alerts.
In 2017 and 2018 we completed the island’s first Wilderness First Responder (WFR) courses, adding 75 more trained citizens to our Hubs team. If you’d like to receive alerts for future WFR training, sign up here.
Are you already a WFR or a NOLS-trained responder? We’d love to have you join the Hubs team as well; please send us a note with your current certification and we’ll send you an invite to our quarterly practice drills.
The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.
With real hands on training during the various classes, participants that take the entire course will use fire extinguishers on a real fire, perform search and rescue operations in the fire training tower and participate in a disaster exercise. We’d love to have you join our team! For existing CERT members, here’s a list of the refresher courses. To learn more, contact the Bainbridge Island CERT team with questions.
