About the BIEMR Team

Our team is made up of more than 100 trained volunteers. In addition to keeping their Wilderness First Responder certifications active, the BIEMRs must also participate in at least two trainings and two events annually.

BIEMR Team Co-Leads

Rob Avery

Rob moved to Bainbridge Island nearly 18 years ago after a career of promoting embryonic technologies. He is a paddlesports coach and focuses on expedition planning and leadership skills including incident management.  He has been a Wilderness First Responder for more than 20 years and leads sea kayak expeditions to some of the wildest and far away places. Currently he owns and operates Alchemy Works LLC, a general construction firm specializing in small residential projects on the island. He tells his clients, “I’m curiously creative and will find interesting solutions to your problems.”

Erik Smith
Erik Smith

Erik has been a Bainbridge Island resident for forty years; Rotary Auction Traffic, Safety, & Security manager for 15 years; US Navy Hospital corpsman for 12 years; Regional Sales and Key Account Manager for a wind turbine drive train company for 20 years; and lacrosse official and state high school officials assignor for 20 years. He is also the Outside Team Manager for Bainbridge Prepares Vaccination Clinics.

Roxanne Corff RN, BSN

Roxanne moved to Bainbridge Island 8 years ago from Seattle. Her father, a physician, was one of the co- founders of the Mountain Rescue Association in Washington, one of her early influences in wilderness medicine. She became first an MRC volunteer and then a BIEMR as she wound down a career as an RN at the University of Washington and Harborview Medical Center: She spent 10 years in the ICU, 18 in the Regional Trauma Center Emergency Department at Harborview, and then finished out the last 15 years in Interventional Radiology. She grew up climbing, hiking, scuba diving, skiing and running, developing a keen appreciation for the challenges of providing medical support in non-hospital settings. Roxanne has very much enjoyed being a part of Bainbridgeprepares.org providing our massive vaccine effort for the City of Bainbridge Island and continues to volunteer in the role of BIEMR Co lead in Continuing Education and Team Support.
